Some recent customer emails ....
From United Kingdom
Hi Ron,
I've now had time to play in my new tenor mpc and it SMOKES like a flame thrower fires the notes out pure and with soul
truly magnificent !!!
Many Thanks
From Japan......
Dear Mr. Ron Coelho
You are genius!
New alto mp is just perfect for me.
The word of "perfect" is just your work.
excellent, marvelous, wonderful, splendid, beautiful, gorgeous,
I don't know which adjective I can use.
Also, I can't possibly put my thanks in words.
Anyway I practice Alto all day long.
Mr. Ron Coelho!
Thank You!
Ron, Got the piece yesterday...Well...was it worth the wait?! ... Jeez! Was it! It is totally killing! After just five minutes on it i felt like i'd been playing on it for years!
It's like 5 of your favourite pieces all rolled into one!
So versatile...... everything from a breathy subtone to a screaming altissimo! Intonation is absolutely spot on too!! Don't know how you do it bro but, keep up the great work!
Cheers
Ron, I received the Tenor piece late last week, and have played it.
As with the Alto, I'm just amazed. The tone is fine, the dynamics are great. Ballsy and powerful; the low end especially. Fabulous playability. Altissimo just wants to pop out.
But what really gets me excited is the intonation on my horn with it. It's like a different horn, in a very good way. I had mapped out the tendencies of the different notes on this Mk VI, and all previous mouthpieces gave generally the same typical tendencies. Sharp right-hand notes in the middle octave, etc, etc. I had even put in some cork tuning crescents which helped quite a lot.
As soon as I started playing on your piece with it, I realized I needed to pull out the crescents. I have returned the horn to a normal set-up, and everything can play in tune without any oral gymnastics. It's just astounding.
Thanks again, your awestruck customer.
From Dubai...
Hi Ron,
Sorry I didn't write sooner to tell you how BADASS that alto mouthpiece is that you sent to me over here in Dubai . Oh, but wait, you already know how awesome that piece is because you made it! Seriously I have never tried anything that comes close, but that's what I expect after buying several of your tenor pieces. That alto piece is the best investment I could have made in my alto chops. Sound wise I get exactly what I want from it with a broken in 2.5 reed- just like you said…
And that latest tenor .115 you sent me last spring is still blowing my mind. It is so easy to get good reeds on it, and I've never sounded so good as lately.
It's no use putting money in the stock market these days, so I might as well invest in sax mouthpieces. But don't worry I wouldn't sell any of these.. when I retire in about 40 years I can see these being the most sought after pieces out there.
Best Regards
Sound Quality
Sound is not the easiest thing to describe, my priorities for saxophone sound in order of importance are as follows:
- BEAUTIFUL :: The saxophone is one of the most beautiful instruments there is, the sound should be big and rich and beautiful.
- DYNAMIC RANGE :: It should be easy to play up and down the horn, soft to loud.
- EDGE :: Everyone has different tastes and perceptions, but some edge on top of the sound is desirable. Each mouthpiece is extensively play tested and the facing curve adjusted until it meets exacting musical standards!
Musical Standards
Each mouthpiece must pass the following tests!
- The mouthpiece must respond with the slightest amount of air and support from the embouchure.
- It must play evenly from top to bottom, meaning, adjacent notes must center in the same way.
- At medium volumes it must have a round and pleasing sound.
- Most importantly for a Jazz mouthpiece, at more extreme volume levels the sound has to hold together and develop some real power!

Understand that each mouthpiece is play tested and the facing and chamber tweaked and fussed with, until the mouthpiece has flawless intonation and response. Very few- if any - mouthpieces
on the market today are individually played for 2 or 3 hours (or more) on different days, and with different reeds to assure the musicality of the sound.
